The Building in Quarry Street, Coatbridge and has been a bowling centre since 1971. It was recognised that the Cliftonville and Coatdyke areas had no local authority community centre, so in 2018 a group of 8 local volunteers set up the Cliftonville & Coatdyke Community Group with the aim of encouraging more local groups to use the extensive facilitles.
Our vision is to secure the future of the building as a 'Community Hub' for the use of the local community. In 2020 we applied to the Scottish Land Fund/Lottery for grants to purchase the building from North Lanarkshire Council.
In April 2021, after a huge effort, we were successful in purchasing the building through grant funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
This is wonderful news not only for local people but for the many residents throughout Airdrie, Coatbridge and beyond who make use of the facility.
If you registered for membership of the group you will receive notification of an all members meeting (AGM) later in the year (August/September 2021) when we will elect a committee, and set out our vision to take the group forward.
The present transition committee will begin the task of making ready for the return to full opening of the building.
We will update on progress and our future plans on this site as we move forward.
